19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hard courts

A comeback the Russian player won his maiden trophy for over two years with victory over Corentin Moutet in the tournament championship match.

Medvedev, a former number one, has experienced a challenging season, achieving just a single victory at the big events and undergoing a difficult moment at the US Open.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serve in especial - led to him falling of the world's top 10 and finally separating with long-term trainer Cervara.

Now training with his coach and Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually progressed in the past month - culminating in a hard-fought competitive victory over opponent Moutet.

This marks his first title following the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hardcourt from spring of that year.

Success also signifies he has achieved twenty-one victories at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a competition with my children simultaneously, so to win a trophy is really nice," commented tennis professional Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had lost his last six finals, featuring in that event previously this season.

Medvedev's counter-punching strategy and regular outbursts on court had caused some to wonder if his capacity to compete at the elite level was concluded.

But the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to come to the net and play positively, reinforced by an enhanced serve.

He recovered from a deficit in the initial set against the challenging Moutet, taking four of the concluding five points to go ahead.

Both players swapped service breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, attempting for his initial ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to push for a third set.

Moutet saved 4 early-game break points in a close final set before the champion won the break to that score to secure the win.

Suitably, he secured victory with a shot at the front of the court, with his opponent failing to control a volley after a lengthy match.
